took some seeds
buried them in the sand
i wanted to see
however long they could stand
to live a life of minimal renown
in a whiskey bottle
turned upside down and placed gently
in the ground

there was many a forb
and many a vine
and though time is sickly
we diagnosed it 1879

sleeping on a bed of rock
glass does sure make a strange home
but history’s coincidences would reinvent
the way that we talk
so we installed 1st-class amenities
a brand new telephone

it was quite a thing
but it would ring too soft for the seeds to ever tell
so they meditated and thought silently to themselves

but the joke was on us

all the seeds that then did sprout
we would call them a weed and we would try to wipe them out

but, in reality, they're not too bad to eat
maybe not on an empty stomach
